Welcome to the SILC Youth Programs Magazine — a celebration of the incredible young people, families, and communities shaping the future of independent living across Alaska!
This magazine was created to shine a spotlight on both the opportunities available through the Statewide Independent Living Council of Alaska and the youth who participate in them. From leadership and self-advocacy to transition planning, emergency preparedness, and workforce readiness, our programs help Alaska’s youth build confidence, discover their strengths, and step boldly into adulthood. Just as important, this magazine highlights the journeys of participants themselves — young people who are setting goals, building skills, and creating meaningful futures in their communities.

Our inaugural Issue 01 holds a special place in our hearts. It made its debut ahead of our advocacy trip to Juneau, where youth participants, parents, board members, and staff came together to meet with legislators and share the real, meaningful difference these programs make in young people’s lives. It was a powerful reminder of what is possible when communities show up for their youth — and when youth show up for themselves.
We’re so glad you’re here! As we continue to grow and publish new issues, we will keep all previous editions available right here on this page so you can follow our journey, revisit inspiring stories, and watch our programs flourish over time. Stay tuned for more!
