FIRE Workshop
The FIRE Workshop is a free, 10-hour program for youth that helps young people with disabilities age 14-24 take charge of their future. Through hands-on activities and guided discussions, participants will explore their strengths, dreams, and challenges, then work with trained facilitators to create an action plan for achieving their goals. Whether you’re thinking about school, work, or independent living, this workshop will give you the tools to make a plan that fits your vision for your life.
At the heart of this workshop is self-determination—you are the expert on your own life! Our facilitators will support you in exploring goals that reflect your interests and values. You’ll also get the chance to build confidence, develop leadership skills, and connect with others in a supportive environment. If you’re ready to take the next step toward your future, we’d love to have you join us!
After attending the workshop, the SILC will also provide mentoring support for up to 1 year. This includes connecting you with helpful resources and working with you to revise or update your goals.
Alaska Transition Handbook
This is a tool we use in our FIRE program to help participants find resources as they plan for life after high school. The Alaska Transition Handbook: Pathway to Adulthood & Employment was created by the Governor’s Council on Disabilities and Special Education. It includes information about supports and services in Alaska. We use this handbook to explore options and connect participants with the resources they need to move toward independence, education, or employment.
